Anchored in Jesus: Holding on to Truth in a Drifting World – Johnny Hunt

“If we hope to live successfully as followers of Jesus, we need a solid foundation that anchors us to a bedrock. If we hope to finish well, we need a strong anchor to keep us from drifting into trouble” (p. 7).

Do you ever feel like you are just floating along in life and wandering aimlessly in your walk with Christ? Have you ever asked the question: “Am I evidently being transformed into the image of my Savior?” Pastor Johnny Hunt exhorts us to really take seriously our Christian lives as we look to stay afloat, or better yet, stay anchored in a drifting and messy world.

Anchored in Jesus presents the fact that Jesus must be our foundation and our strong anchor. The power to be fruitful in this life comes from John 15:5 – “If you abide in me, and I in you, you will bear much fruit.” We all desire fruitful lives both for ourselves and for those around us. Thankfully, this book sets out a trajectory for those looking to live their lives for the sake of Christ.

The book is split into three sections. The first gets us acquainted with Jesus, our strong and sure anchor, by looking at four of His portraits that we find in Scripture: our Messiah, our Lord, our Savior, and our High Priest. The second section focuses on what it actually looks like to be transformed by Jesus. Transformation begins with a loving relationship with the Person of Jesus and our dependence on the Spirit. The final section speaks into finishing well in life and what Paul meant when he tells Timothy to “fight the good fight of faith.” (1 Timothy 6:12)

Hunt’s focus on Christ and his own vitality of life and ministry is displayed on every page. You can really tell that Christ has taken hold of his life and he desires to follow Jesus in all of life. This was the most encouraging part of the book for me. Hearing Johnny exhort his brothers in Christ to follow after Jesus, depending on Him for transformation and sanctification in our lives, gets one excited about serving Christ and taking every moment captive for the glory of God.

If you are looking for a place to go to discover new excitement and energy to follow after Jesus, this book is a great start! It draws us back to dependence on Jesus as we abide in Him to live and work through us. Grab a copy today!
